The rules of European Roulette and its variants.
There are slight differences here and there, but the main rules are generally the same for European Roulette and its variants.
Roulette tables require a wheel and a platter, each of which consists of a set of 36 equally distributed red and black numbers. The board is divided into 12 rows and 3 columns. 18 of the numbers in the roulette wheel are black and 18 are red with a single green zero.
Roulette is a simple game that can be learned without too much difficulty. The basic game is not complicated: you bet that one or more numbers or a combination of numbers will appear on the next spin of the wheel. However, some bets are harder to win than others, so that different bets have different payouts. Each number also has a corresponding colour, red or black, which you can also bet on. In addition to numbers and colours, players can also choose to bet on combinations of several numbers or whether the number on a given round is even or odd.
Let’s explore these options further by taking look at the basics of the types of bets and how they pay out.
As mentioned above, inside bets are made by placing chips on the inside section of the roulette board. This can be done within number boxes or on various vertical or horizontal lines to place bets on multiple numbers.
The most basic roulette bet is the straight bet, which is a bet that is placed on a single number and it is pay 35 to 1. This is simply because the odds of choosing the right number are incredibly low.
BET ON: ONE NUMBER
A split bet is a bet placed on the line between two numbers. This bet will pay out if either of those numbers comes up and pays at 17 to 1.
BET ON: TWO NUMBERS
On the other hand, a line bet is a bet placed on a single horizontal line of three numbers. This bet pays out at rate of 11 to 1.
BET ON: THREE NUMBERS
A corner or square bet is a bet on four numbers and is placed on the meeting corner of the four numbers you wish to bet. This pays at 8 to 1.
BET ON: FOUR NUMBERS
A six-line bet is like the horizontal line bet, referred to above (see line bet), but instead of betting on one horizontal line you are betting on two “streets”.
BET ON: TWO HORIZONTAL LINES
Unlike inside bets, outside bets are made by placing your chips on the outside section of the board. These bets usually pay out at lower rates, but your odds of winning are significantly higher!
The 1-18 bet is self-explanatory; if the ball lands on a number between 1 through 18 you win.
BET ON: NUMBERS 1-18
Same at 1-18 bet, the 19-36 bet will also pay you out at even money if the ball lands on any number between 19 and 36.
BET ON: NUMBERS 19-36
You can also bet on the color of the number, RED or BLACK.
BET ON: RED OR BLACK
Like the red or black bet, you can also bet on the number being ODD or EVEN. This bet also pays out at evens. As you may have noticed the odds and payouts for all the aforementioned bets are identical. This is because you are betting on different halves of the total of numbers on the wheel.
BET ON: ODD OR EVEN
Dozens bets, on the other hand, are made on one of three separate groups of numbers. You can either bet on the 1-12 dozen, the 13-24 dozen, or the 25-36 dozen. These bets pay out at 2 to 1 and the odds are somewhat lower.
BET ON: A DOZEN NUMBER GROUP: 1-12 (1st 12) / 13-24 (2nd 12) / 25-36 (3rd 12)
Column bets are similar to dozens bets as they are also bets placed on groups of 12 numbers. Instead of being divided by their order, these groups are divided into the three columns of the roulette board. This bet also pays out 2 to 1.
BET ON: ONE OF THE THREE COLUMNS (1, 2 or 3)
HOW IS A GAME PLAYED?
- First, the dealer invites players to place their bets on the roulette table.
- Next, the dealer announces the end of the betting round, and throws the ball into the spinning roulette wheel.
- After a few seconds, the ball settles into one of the numbered slots in the wheel.
- The dealer congratulates the winners and announces the start of a new round (when a person wins, his name appears on the screen along with the amount won in the game that has just ended).
